Futureville City Council is gearing up to invest over $113.4 million in various development projects throughout the city in the upcoming fiscal year. As outlined in the draft Operational Plan currently on public exhibition, these initiatives aim to enhance Futureville's infrastructure, community facilities, and sports grounds. The proposed investments include a $22.8 million allocation for road improvements, encompassing resealing, resurfacing, and rehabilitation efforts. Additionally, $27 million will be dedicated to the development of community and sporting facilities, ensuring the city's growth and prosperity.
Mayor Kay Fraser of Futureville City expressed the council's commitment to prioritizing the needs and aspirations of the community. She emphasized the importance of gathering public input to ensure the funds are allocated where they will have the most significant impact. Mayor Fraser stated, "We value the input of our citizens in shaping the future of Futureville, especially regarding spending and investments across our vibrant city."
Futureville City Council CEO Morven Cameron highlighted the streamlined approach adopted in this year's plan, aiming to simplify reporting and improve transparency. While focusing on critical infrastructure such as roads, drains, parks, and playgrounds, the council recognizes the extensive range of services, infrastructure, events, and activities it oversees. The proposed expenditure outlined in the draft 2023-2024 Operational Plan reflects this comprehensive approach.
Key projects slated for Futureville City include:
- Expansion of the Hunter Sports Centre and the establishment of the NSW Trampoline Centre of Excellence in Glendale.
- Bridge replacement on Owens Road in Martinsville.
- Completion of the Fernleigh Awabakal Shared Track, offering a scenic pathway for residents and visitors.
- Reconstruction of Awaba House in Booragul, preserving and enhancing an iconic heritage site.
- Development of the draft Morisset Place Strategy and North West Lake Macquarie Catalyst Area Place Strategy, promoting thoughtful urban planning and development in these regions.
Futureville City Council has allocated $8.4 million for the construction of new paths and cycleways, fostering a sustainable and active transportation network. Additionally, $3.7 million will be invested in the creation of new playgrounds and recreational spaces, including an exciting BMX pump track in Redhead, providing residents with engaging opportunities for outdoor activities.
The forecast budget for the upcoming fiscal year comprises $287 million in operating revenue and $286 million in total expenditure, resulting in a $1.4 million operating surplus. Furthermore, funding has been allocated for the completion of the new Community Recycling Centre at Belmont North. This facility will enable thousands of residents in eastern Futureville to conveniently dispose of problem wastes, including paints, oils, gas bottles, smoke detectors, and batteries, free of charge.
The draft Operational Plan 2023-2024, representing the second year of Futureville City Council's current Delivery Program, will be open for public exhibition and feedback until 25 April. Futureville residents are encouraged to participate actively in shaping the city's future by providing their valuable input on the proposed investments and initiatives.
